SEEN This Week 8/16/10

Like the new title? Thought it was time for something a little less generic for something which reports the fascinating endeavors both aspiring and publishing authors are achieving each week. While on the subject, here is what was seen and reported this past week:

Acclaimed horror author Gabrielle Faust announced the launch of her new “Gabrielle Faust by Overall Beauty” organic eye shadow collection. Pre orders are now being taken at this link.

She also attended the August 14 kickoff party for Austin Fashion Week, and is planning to work on another book for the Eternal Vigilance series, Eternal Vigilance IV.

Gabrielle will attend the UNTERVELT event August 21 at Prague Night Club in Austin, TX, joining dark gypsy musicians of Hipnautica on Sept. 18 at Prague in Austin from 9PM to 3AM.

She will have three appearances on October 16: a signing at Dragon's Lair Comics from 1 to 3PM, appearing at Blood of the Bean is still from 5-9PM, and a final stop at UNTERVELT at Prague from 9PM-3AM. For a complete schedule of Gabrielle’s appearances, go to her events page.

Stephen Pearl will be attending SFContario November 19 – 21, 2010. SFContario is the newest Speculative Fiction convention in the southern Ontario region with the first one happening this November. It will be located at the Ramada Plaza Toronto, 300 Jarvis Street, Toronto, Ontario. Stephen will share an exhibiter’s booth with Ira Nayman, proprietor of the Alternate Reality news service and doing several panels.

Johnny Tan, author of From My Mama’s Kitchen-“food for the soul, recipes for living” received a Mom’s Choice Award (MCA), a program that recognizes authors, inventors, companies, parents and others for their efforts in creating quality family-friendly media, products and services. From My Mama's Kitchen was a Gold Recipient in the category of Inspirational / Motivational.

Deanie Humphrys-Dunne will have a signing at Lion Hill Farm, 1020 Sport Hill Rd., Easton, CT on September 12 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM for her books Tails of Sweetbrier and Charlie the Horse.

Lyndi Alexander announced the release of The Elf Queen, an urban fantasy now available from Dragonfly Publishing.

Leah Petersen received another request for a partial August 11! Congratulations to her for a job well done.

As of 8/11/10, Gary Ponzo’s thriller, A Touch of Deceit, was # 5 in the top Kindle books for Police Procedurals, and # 581 overall in Kindle books.

One of SueAnn Jackson Land’s other works, The End of My Son's Journey , made a re-appearance in the Globe and Mail August 13.

Paparazzi Publishing’s founder, Jeni Sanfort, is planning a fundraiser to commemorate the upcoming fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. All proceeds collected will be donated to the Red Cross for appropriate distribution. To find out how you may help, email jsanfort@paparazzipublishing.com.

To kick off the upcoming school year, Pittsburgh teacher and author Mike Shuck will be reading and then signing copies of his new book, Numbers Elementary: Rounding, at the Greentree Public Library on September 7. David de Lara,
an artist based in Austin, TX, has a book of his work, In Pieces: The Art of David de Lara for sale on Blurb, which art buffs may order here. For those in Austin, David’s art exhibit, Tender Dissonance, is happening through August 28 at La Pena.
