Images in Books: Rights and Permissions

Writing a book that will include images can be a challenge for many reasons. Whether it’s getting quality images or securing permission to use photographs, authors need to do their research if they want to produce a quality book with stunning visual appeal.

  1. I read this article with interest having just shelled out a few weeks' pocket money for the cover image for Saving Nathaniel. I did 'steal' it originally from the 'net, and it was OK to use for a non-commercial miniature version like an Authonomy cover, but when I was published and the book was for sale, I had to track down the owner and buy a licence to use it legally. It is something I think a lot of people overlook. Thanks for the info, it may save someone a letter from a solicitor or worse, a hefty fine.
