Profile: Ashley Boynes-Shuck

"It pays to do work that you love, and to turn life's lemons into that proverbial lemonade!"

This week I'm featuring Ashley Boynes-Shuck, a blogger I've had the pleasure of following for almost two years, who has also supported my own work in addition to our struggle together with arthritis. As you will read below, she's a human dynamo!

Ashley resides in the Pittsburgh area, where she owns a home with her husband. In addition to writing the Glitzburgh blog, which has been featured in the Tribune Review newspaper and on the PA Governor's Conference for Women web site, she's blogged for the Arthritis Foundation, Maniac Magazine, Women on the Web (wowOwow.com), BarSmart.com, and the Steel City Mafia. She is also the founder of Social Media Butterfly, a social media consulting, online marketing, and freelance writing service.

Ashley's work has also appeared in the following publications:

South Fayette & Neighbors Magazine
Chartiers Valley Magazine
Peters Township Magazine
Bethel Park Courier
Youth Sports Report
FLIP Magazine (Rocket Science Productions)
Trib Total Media's Wedding Essentials
Lux Magazine
Western Pennsylvania Guide to Good Health
PA Boomer's Resource Guide
Wedding Essentials Magazine
Tobeco Literary Journal
Eyerie Magazine
the Clarion Call Newspaper, and others.

She sat on the editorial board of The Clarion Call newspaper and was also a proofreading/editing intern at Ten United Advertising. Previous writing jobs include freelance work for the web site The Black and White Program, MarkIT Group, eZine articles, and developing listings for WeSellNow, Inc.

In 2007, Ashely interned on-air at 96.1 KISS fm with the very well-known DJ Bonics where she also wrote a blog called the Intern Ashley Spot. She has a background in music business, entertainment, and fashion design but is also very passionate about health, wellness, and advocacy.

She used to blog and "tweet" for the Arthritis Foundation's Western Pennsylvania Chapter (AFWPA) and currently works with the Mid Atlantic Region of the Arthritis Foundation doing blogging and social media outreach. She began and currently moderates the Facebook page/group Rheum to Grow for Teens and Young Adults with Arthritis and Related Disease, and is "Arthritis Ashley" on Facebook and Twitter.

In addition to writing over 100 song lyrics and doing professional and grant writing, Ashley is working on a novel (adult fiction genre), and have had offers to have her poetry published.

She'll soon be guest blogging for the Britney Spears fan site Britney.com and worked with the Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women as part of their Social Media Steet Team as well as being a blogger.

I was recently interviewed by Health Monitor Magazine and been approached by the national offices of the Arthritis Foundation headquarters to blog for their "Let's Move Together" initiative.

With all her other work, Ashley still finds time to do PR and Marketing for her husband's children's book, Numbers Elementary: Rounding which is the first of an educational math series with heart called Numbers Elementary that is published through Rocket Science Productions, LLC. She also am working with RSP, LLC. to recruit dog stories for an upcoming compilation book to be nationally published.

She appeared as a model in the book, For the Troops and done modeling work for various local agencies and for various local events. She's been an extra or walk-on actor in a few major motion pictures filmed in Pittsburgh, including Abduction starring Taylor Lautner, and Riddle starring Val Kilmer.

She is always seeking guest blogging opportunities, paid freelance writing and social media consulting work.

Among her many accomplishments, Ashley was selected among the 40 Under 40 in Pittsburgh by Maniac Exchange. She will also be attending the 2011 Advocates for Arthritis Conference via the American College of Rheumatology in Washington, D.C. in September.
